Current Projects Winter 2022

Working with Young People:

Academic Day

  • Birney Elementary Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Program: Teach academic garden classes to all grades weekly – 17 hours/week plus garden care and special classroom support
  • McKinley Elementary Octopus Garden: Teach academic garden classes to TK-3rd grade weekly with monthly workshops for 4th/5th grades – approximately 15 hours/week
  • Pacific Beach Elementary Garden: Provide weekly garden enrichment with all students every other month (four classrooms each Wednesday) 4 hours/week

Garden Clubs: After school enrichment to complete important garden work, enjoy the garden space and have time to do crafty projects.

  • Birney Elementary – 2 hrs per week for the duration of the semester
  • Roosevelt Roots Garden Club 1.5 hours a week for a fall and spring session

Train adults to work with School Garden Programs

Work with childcare and/or school/district to develop an integrated garden program

  • D3 is working with the Logan Heights Community Development Corporation to develop their existing school garden into a flourishing component of the preschool. Work includes site assessment, committee coordination, materials research, plant selection, and guiding a volunteer effort to expand and improve the garden and enhance its use by the preschool for lunches, snacks, and hands-on garden education.
